THEODORA
Thomas Dunford conducts his Jupiter Ensemble.
Refusing to sacrifice herself to Venus, the young Christian woman Theodora is condemned by the Romans to prostitution before dying a martyr's death. Far from the flamboyant heroism of Giulio Cesare, Handel displays deeply moving emotion in one of his last oratorios. Carried by elegiac and fervent music, Theodora transcends intimate drama to become a true spiritual meditation.
